The Times interviewed us about our career re-set when we were fifty,  and how it turned our lives around (June 2025). The Times interviewed us about our career re-set when we were fifty, and how it turned our lives around.   Sally Wilse was made redundant from the software company she had helped to set up a decade earlier, it came as a huge shock. Overnight she went from earning just under £100,000 a year to being without a job. She was 50.  “It hurt and it was very scary, and it took a long time to come to terms with,” said Wilse, now 63, from Canterbury. Her husband Christian, 67, had been made redundant two years before her.  After deciding that she did not want another corporate job that could leave her vulnerable again, Wilse looked at starting up her own firm. She had seen an advert on a flight for the US company Seniors Helping Seniors, which provides older carers for the elderly, contacted the company and eventually bought a franchise.  The couple sold their £700,000 home and Christian cashed in his pension, ploughing the proceeds into the new business. Their Canterbury Seniors Helping Seniors franchise now has a turnover of just under £1 million and has helped to spawn franchises across the UK.  “Starting up a business was a calculated step for us, and it has certainly paid off because we are now in control of our future and income,” Wilse said.       The redundancy threat is more real than ever for mid-lifers, and franchising can be a great option, particularly when the mission matches the legacy you’d like to create. Doing good can make money and it’s wonderful every day!   A management franchise scales to match how hard you want to work and in our case, you will be employing people who are usually distanced from work opportunities and the services they provide in the peer – to -peer care model have outstanding benefits.  Our work is keeping those amazing carers happy and well and supporting them to do their best work and delivering outstanding customer service.  If you feel you could be interested in a business opportunity that disrupts the woeful care sector, please get in touch.
